A Legacy
Yo pple! ahaha... yes, my little readers out there, u haf spurred me into moving my fingers once more tippity tap over the keyboard to blog again! ahaha... today shall be known as "JOJO's BLOG RESURRECTION DAY"! wahahaha... well, since it's been sooooo long since i last left off, let me update a little on wat i've been up to...
i've just ended my 8-week placement at SOME acute hospital (which i'm not supposed to divulge due to privacy purposes) n am currently holidaying @ home... slacking like de slacker tt i am..heh.. i guess i can only sum up my clinical placement in 2 words: "Jojo's Legacy". yep! n here's how i got my name into the hall of fame (or shld i say "infame").
Incident #1:
Scene 1
Was an abnormal day at de hands dept, cos my supervisor n i had an unprecedented large number of clients! (heh... usually i'm quite slack there la..). n so, being de kind n helpful student tt i am, i volunteered to change de wound dressing for a client. mind u, i've only SEEN my sup doing dressing TWICE, but i tot tt smart n adaptable me can do de job. no prob, it's only wound dressing rite?? DEH!! WRONG!! so there i was trying to change de wound dressing, wif my sup breathing down my neck n i forgot de all impt P-word u haf to do b4 u start doing anything. P.R.E.P.A.R.A.T.I.O.N. so NO preparation watsoeva n i started 2 take off de wound dressing. u hafta do everything using STERILE gloves (which r thicker n more ex than norm gloves), so there i was wearing gloves, changing de dressing, n suddenly i rmred! OH! i need de bandage! took bandage from shelf using GLOVED hands, n discovered OH NO! my gloves r no longer STERILE! change gloves. did some more dressing. suddenly rmred again! OH! i need saline lotion! took saline lotion from shelf using GLOVED hands, n discovered OH NO! my gloves r no longer STERILE! change gloves AGAIN. did some more dressing. suddenly rmred again! OH! i need sterile scissors! took sterile scissors from shelf using GLOVED hands, n discovered OH NO! my gloves r no longer STERILE! change gloves YET AGAIN. so dis carried on by before i knew it, i used abt 4 gloves in 1 single wound dressing. wow!! applause for jojo!!! wat a great performance! n there goes my sup telling another OT: "i got expensive student leh. she used 4 - 5 gloves doing 1 dressing!"
Scene 2
all of us went 4 dinner wif de hands n ortho team (sort of a farewell dinner for us *aaww.. so sweet!*) n de OT hu heard abt wat happened earlier happily decided tt she shld spread de joy around... JOY over my STUPIDITY tt is... n suddenly, i became an intradepartmental overnight sensation!! headlines: "THE EXPENSIVE STUDENT!" i am SOOOO proud of myself.
Incident #2:
i'm supposed 2 do ultrasound for dis client of mine. tt's when u apply a conductive gel over de client's skin n do ultrasound treatment via a flat-surfaced probe. we usually do it for a few mins n there's a timer on de machine. so i was happily chatting 2 my client while doing de treatment, when my client suddenly tells me tt de timer is not jumping. lo n behold! de timer has stopped! how curious! let us try again. nope still not working. let's try yet AGAIN! hmm... still not working. i think de machine is spoilt. so i trotted off, like de good ol' student i am, to tell de OT (de same one who propagandaed my stupidity earlier on) tt i tink de machine is spoilt. so she came along n checked. wanna know de ans to de mystery? apparently de culprit is a stupid student called JOANNA. u see, joanna had stupidly forgotten tt de machine has 2 probes. 1 big probe n 1 small probe, but there's only 1 plug point. so while joanna was happily using de BIG probe, de SMALL probe was de one tt was plugged in. wow! mystery solved! i din't remove de small probe n plug in de big one! how smart joanna! n i had to do de ultrasound all over again! n of cos de OT din't fail 2 dig in summore abt wasting de conduction gel n brand me as "expensive" once again. neither did she fail to inform de whole hands dept of my stupidity.... ah well... de stupid things i do in life. a toast. a toast to me n my stupidity.
