The Amazing Little Ootts

Once upon a time, in the dense forests of Nany Angpo Lyte Chnic, there was a tiny village called Ototot. It was populated by a rare tribe, who called themselves Otians. Now, in truth, they were not Otians, but really Ootts, baby Otians. Whenever an Oott was born, it has to undergo 3 years of formal brainwashing before it can become a full fledged Otian. The Otians were powerful creatures who, in their generosity and kindness, dedicated their lives to helping all the small creatures of the magical forest. Hence, it was every Oott's dream to get their brain properly washed with spells and potions so that they could, one day, fulfill their wonderful destinies. And so, every Oott was sent to Ototot right after birth and put in the care of their guardians, the 4 OTTERS (Iams Mart, Confusious, Stresses and Newm Om). Such was the fate of our heroines, who like all others before them, arrived at Ototot right after birth, bawling their heads off.

Now, the story begins in the second spring of our heroines' lives. They had enjoyed the first year of their brainwashing thoroughly, as all babies do and were looking forward to another year of fun and brainwashing. However, this was not to be. Soon after the New Year, the OTTERS announced that now the Ootts were 2 years old, they must start to learn the ways of the Otians and follow the PATH. Now, the Ootts were unsure of what the PATH was and how they were expected to follow it, since the PATH was supposed to be invisible to their senses. However, the OTTERS assured them that they would find the PATH if they succumbed to intense sessions of brainwashing and followed the wise words of the OTTERS. Convinced and passionate, the Ootts agreed happily.

As the months passed, the Ootts were shown flashes of the PATH now and then by the OTTERS. Iams Mart tried hard to stamp his own brand on the Ootts and never failed to display his wonderful magical powers to the initially amazed, later amused Ootts. It was good entertainment to the young and naive Ootts, who didn't know any better and they enjoyed the free magic show thoroughly. Confusious, on the other hand, was another story. The Ootts tried hard to learn from Confusious, but Confusious had been blessed since young with a sleeping spell, and all the Ootts could do nothing but fall prey to the sleeping spell whenever Confusious started to talk. Of those precious few who were immune to Confusious' sleeping spell, they perked up their ears n tried hard to listen, but Confusious was named so for a reason and before long, the remaining Ootts were trapped in confusion over what she was trying to say, and in good time, learned to sleep with their eyes open. As confusing as Confusious already was, she still continued to periodically change the potions and spells which she had set for the Ootts to do, making them more confused than ever. Potions and spells are already difficult to master in their own right, and Confusious wasn't making it any easier.

Stresses, on the other hand, was often bogged down by her guardianship work and always looked tired. She was helpful and very nurturing to the Ootts, always giving them positive feedback and encouragement. Although, the Ootts also tried to learn from the nice Stresses, it was also difficult as Stresses liked to talk in riddles and sometimes the riddles just didn't make sense to the inexperienced Ootts. Also, Stresses liked to test the Ootts' reflexes by giving them last minute potions and spells to do, often throwing the poor Ootts into panic and anxiety attacks. The Ootts tried to predict what new spell or potion Stresses would test them on next, but Stresses always managed to surprise, or should I say shock, them with new, never-seen-before spells and potions. As time wore on, the Ootts learned to give up predicting and simply accepted whatever was thrown at them. Lastly, there was Newm Om, who was the newest OTTER and was also expecting a new Oott herself. The Ootts liked her, for here, at last, was a nice and reasonable OTTER who made sense and showed them the PATH clearly. The Ootts were also quite excited over Newm Om's new Oott and couldn't wait to see the new baby.

As more and more of the PATH was shown to the Ootts, more and more spells and potions were thrown at them too. In addition, all the Ootts had to go on regular journeys out of Ototot and into the deep forest, where they followed full fledged Otians around, helping the creatures of the forest. These journeys were tests of the Ootts knowledge and skills in spells and potions. The journeys were stressful events as sometimes Ootts could hurt the creatures of the forest instead of helping them if they said the wrong spells or gave the wrong potions. All the Ootts were tired and drained, yet spells and potions kept coming! Some even lost the PATH which they must follow and struggled to find the PATH again. It was a dark time for our poor little Ootts, who were really babies still. And so, they supported each other and guided one another along the invisible PATH, towards the tiny shaft of light at the end of the PATH............... (to be continued)
